About Dr. Behrens IV
Phil Behrens, MD, is a board-eligible orthopaedic surgeon who is licensed in Indiana, Kentucky, Florida, and Utah. He specializes in minimally invasive spine and trauma surgery. He is passionate about optimizing physical performance & function in highly motivated patients of all ages. Currently, Brad Gish-NP works alongside Dr. Behrens at OAH. Dr Behrens’ interest in regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy has earned him international distinction. He is widely published in high-impact journals including Stem Cells & Nature: Scientific Reports.
Dr. Behrens is an avid researcher in laboratory sciences as well as emerging technology—surgical navigation, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence (AI). His work has been nominated for the Hibbs Basic Science award by the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS)—the highest award at the largest international spine conference. Dr. Behrens has received over a dozen research awards including 3rd Place Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS), New Investigator Award via Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS), and Whitecloud Award Finalist at the International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques (IMAST).
He is the co-founder and Executive Vice President of Walqer, LLC. This next generation walking device company is dedicated to improving patient's mobilization through bio-mechanical optimization, activity data capture & feedback via mobile device interface. Walqer has strategic partnerships with Purdue University College of Engineering, Indiana University School of Medicine, and the University of Southern Indiana. The first product launch is anticipated quarter three of 2024.
Dr. Behrens is a proud Evansville native and graduate of Reitz Memorial High School. At the age of 17, he was one of six students who were accepted into Indiana University School of Medicine in a combined BS/MD program. In college, he held a varsity position on the club wrestling team and ranked #1 in his graduating class. He was awarded the President's Medal of Honor-the highest honor given to a graduating senior. In medical school, he was among the top 15% of his class and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills, California.
When Dr. Behrens is not attending to the orthopaedic needs of our community, he and his fiance, Mojdeh, are likely playing fetch with their highly esteemed dog, Charlie. He also enjoys classic car restoration, skiing, trap shooting, and scuba diving.
